Adidas Makes Shoes And Clothing Using Ocean Garbage

German Sports brand Adidas is teaming up with the charitable organization Parley. a group of artists, scientists, musicians, and designers dedicated to cleaning up the world’s oceans. 

Adidas an Parley are going to clean the oceans from large amounts of plastic waste to turn into fibers and to manufacture it into clothing and shoes. With this collaboration, Adidas is consisting in its efforts to produce their products as sustainable as possible. “By partnering with Parley for the Oceans, we’re contributing to a great environmental cause and co-creating new fabrics from ocean plastic waste that we’ll gradually and constantly integrate into our product,” spokesperson Maria Culp stated to the press.

Adidas also pledges to phase out plastic bags at 2900 stores worldwide. “Banning plastic bags in our stores we see as the first step in this long-lasting cooperation” Frank Henke, the vice president of Adidas said.

Adidas isn’t the only brand that is conserned about the environment. Last year Dutch clothing brand G-star joined forces with Parley for the Oceans. The Dutch denim brand collaborated with Pharrell Williams to develop a clothing line created out of cleared waste. Pharrell is the creative director of Bionic Yarn, a compagny that creates fabric primarily out of plastic bottles.
