Louis Vuitton is celebrating its 160th anniversary. In honor of this, the label has started a special collaboration with various designers.
Six guest designers, including Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin and industrial designer Marc Newson, architect Frank Gehry, Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons artist Cindy Sherman have been given complete freedom to redesign the well-known golden monogram of Louis Vuitton. About the designs is very little known, accept that Designer Marc Newson is working on a model for men and it is said that Karl Lagerfeld is working on a punched model. All models will be collectors items are, partly because they only will be on sale for just a few months.
Delphine Arnault, the vice president of Louis Vuitton is giving the collaboration a big approach. There will be a campaign, a book and a website, to promote the bags. The items in the collection, which consists of both travel and handbags, will be sold for amounts between 2000 and 4000 euros. In the past Louis Vuitton has done more collaborations with designers who were allowed to reinterpret the monogram. The most successful was Takashi Murakami, who in 2002 made a revenue of 290 million. The collection of the six new designers is expected to launch in October of this year.
