Meadham Kirchhoff unveiled Topshot collection– Last week was announced that Meadham Kirchhoff has gone into partnership, for the fourth time with Topshop. The designer duo this time designs 89 pieces for the high-street chain under the name “The Cherrys” and show in their collection their very own vision of a punk rock band. It is the biggest offering for the high-street brand so far, featuring whimsical, technicolour pieces. It is an enormous and all encompassing collection which will offer a myriad of choice for any customer to adapt or reject as they see fit. The line also has a Magic Roundabout feel to it – particularly the footwear, in all their chunky, almost childlike glory. ” said the designers.
“Meadham Kirchhoff are showing their collections in London for eight years now,” said Topshops Creative Director Kate Phelan. “They are incredibly talented, original and inspiring.” According to Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff the collection is inspired by rock stars like Marilyn Manson, the Spooky Kids, Kembra Pfahler and glam rock. From there they created a fictional rock band called ‘The Cherrys’, which consists of four different ‘ personalities ‘. “The clothing describes their character. You can choose a whole look or make a mix of them yourself, “said Phelan.
There is less of the romantic darkness that diehard fans of the label might expect, although attention to detail is still paramount, as is the irreverent femininity that the designers are known for, with plenty of glitter, cartoonish motifs, pastel faux fur, frill trims and ruffles. For those looking for something more discreet, the navy camisole and pleated pastel pink dress, both decorated with lace detailing , should offer a solution.
The Meadham Kirchhoff collection for Topshop is for sale starting next Thursday.
