Barbie doesn’t have anymore pressure to make her Christmas wardrobe this year. The doll got a makeover by Milliner Stephen Jones. He created five new looks for the doll. “Barbie is the most fabulous private client,” said Jones. “She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits! Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future.” The new Barbie outfits consist of cocktail-, maxi and mini-dresses.
The five dolls – priced at £250 each – will launch at Selfridges London’s Toy Shop on November 15. Other labels who have previously added to Barbie’s wardrobe include Azzedine Alaïa, Burberry, Comme des Garçons, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Prada.
At Selfridges they are happy with the christmas doll “We want this Christmas to offer one-of-a-kind gifts,” said the head of accessories, children’s clothing and toys, Erin Moscow. “The beauty must be in the rarity. All stories and fantasies of Stephens work, made with the fun and smartness of Barbie are are put together in these lovely dolls.”
