The Wizard of Oz Dolls – The Wizard of Oz is celebrating its 75th anniversary. To celebrate the festive occassion, special dolls will be made of the characters from the story. The dolls will be clothed by some great designers, including Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, BCBG and Hervé Leger.
The designs are very striking. Lubov Azria of BCBG so took her inspiration from the past Gala and designed an impressive evening dress for the good witch Glinda, one of the characters from the piece. Due to the large number of designers that works on the project, there are multiple interpretations of the characters from the movie tranlated in the looks. So designer Chris Benz took his inspiration for the leading role of Dorothy from the windy New York and used a blown away newspaper for the decoration. Trina Turk thought of Dorothy more as a California girl and made a denim suit with Rainbow t-shirt for the character refering to the most well-known song from The Wizard of Oz ‘ Somewhere over the rainbow ‘.
The miniature designs of the dolls will be shown on september 4, during New York Fashion Week after which they will be sold on e-Bay for charity. The proceeds will go to the ‘there’s No Place Like Home’ an initiative of Habitat for Humanity.
